   • Town planning, agriculture, trade, religion, decline of the Indus Valley Civilization.

   • Source-based analysis and interpretation of archaeological evidence.

2. Kings, Farmers and Towns – Early States and Economies (c.600 BCE–600 CE)

   • Rise of Mahajanapadas, Mauryan Empire, Ashoka’s Dhamma, Gupta rule.

   • Literary and inscriptional sources like the Arthashastra and Ashokan edicts.

3. Kinship, Caste and Class – Early Societies
